2012 Sam Bass Day Art Contest

 

Attention all artists:

Have you seen the Stone railroad dam in Allen or the Train Depot, or the Allen Christian Church? Here is your chance to draw one of these historic structures.

The Allen Heritage Guild is sponsoring an Art contest in conjunction with the Celebration of Allen’s Train History and Sam Bass Day on Saturday, February 25th

There will be four skill levels of entries: K-3rd, 4th-6th, Middle School, and High School.

 

Students are to draw or paint a picture of one of the historical structures on the Allen Driving Tour. Allowable mediums include watercolor, oil, acrylic, charcoal and crayon.  Photography will not be permitted.

Pictures need to be no smaller than 8 ½ by 11 inches and no bigger than 12 x 18 inches. Entries will become the property of the Allen Heritage Guild.

 

Entries will be turned in to the school office on each Allen ISD campus by February 13th.    Winners will be announced by Friday Feb 17th.  An awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, February 25th at the Allen Heritage Center/Train Depot, 100 East Main at 2:30 PM. 

 

Prizes will be awarded for the first, second and third place in each skill category. Participation ribbons will be given to all participants. First place will receive $20, Second place $15 and third place $10.  The entries will become the property of the Allen Heritage Guild. The winners’ pictures will be put on display in the Allen Train Depot. Winners will also be recognized at an Allen City Council meeting.

Art Contest Rules

1.     No photos are permitted.

2.     Students are to draw or paint a picture of one of the historic structures on the Historic Allen Driving Tour. See the Historic Driving Brochure here. Pictures are to be no smaller than 8  by 10 inches or not larger than 18 X 24 inches.  All entries will become the property of the Allen Heritage Guild.

3.     Entries are to be turned into your school office by Monday, February 13th. Winners will be announced on Feb 17th.

4.     Levels of competition are K to 3rd, 4th to 6th, Middle School and High School. First, Second, and Third places will be recognized on Sam Bass Day at the Allen Train Depot on Saturday February 25th at the Award Ceremony at 2:30 PM.  All participating Students will receive a Participation Ribbon.

This adventure is a self-guided exploration of the county's museums "hosted by Collin McKinney," our founding father, through a carry-along folder with questions about our county's history. The answers may be discovered at specific venues throughout Collin County. The activity is for grade-school children participatinjg with their parents and is free. Summer months only.
